YSL/denver

Today we went to the preview of the YSL exhibit (a nice little perk for members of the museum). I wasn't sure what to expect. I mean I love Yves Saint Laurent and I love the Denver Art Museum, so what could possibly go wrong? Absolutely nothing...it was an exquisite display. The exhibit (for me) built up excitement and by the time I reached the last display of clothing, I had a bit of an emotional experience and teared up. Well done, Denver Art Museum! You are still my favorite place in Denver.

I wanted to take pictures but they were not allowed. So I took a picture of my YSL ankle boots that I wore to the exhibit and the brochure from the show.

Be sure to book a weekend trip to Denver to see the exhibit. It is truly a treat!

BRILLIANT MISTAKE/alexander wang cecilia bootie

When I think of the name Cecilia, I think of one of my all-time favorite movies, The Virgin Suicides. With that reference in mind, the idea of posing next to a tree seems brilliant, right? While I would love to say that the direction of this shoot was premeditated, I find that I cannot lie to my readers....this shoot was nothing more than a brilliant mistake that lead to a "happy accident". On this particular day, we found ourselves pressed for time and so we pulled over at the Auraria campus to snap a few quick shots.

Why am I discussing Cecilia anyway? Well the name of this particular shoe style is Cecilia and I make it a point to know all of my shoes by their name. I mean after all, we do live together.

Anyone that knows me at all knows about my addiction to Wang. Yes, I know, I may have a problem, but in my mind, the dude can do no wrong. I think that Alexander Wang is to the fashion world, what David Chang is to the food world...they both take things that we know and revive them with a breath of excitement. Cummerbund meets boxing short?! Cummerbund meets track pant?! And tuxedo pant meets spats?! Are you kidding me?! This is pattern making at its best! Plus zippers and fur meet sunglasses! You almost find yourself thinking, "Why didn't I think of that?" But the fact remains, you didn't and he did; therefore, Alexander Wang comes out as the genius.

Dollhouse Vacancy loves you, Alexander Wang!

GOLDEN FRUIT/nicholas kirkwood for erdem lace and suede sandals

These pictures were taken downtown after meeting some friends for dinner. I was super anxious to break out these new shoes. Sure, I had dreams of wearing them with the red lace Erdem dress from the runway, but I just had to work with what I had for now...which turned out to be a thrifted skirt and a little bit of golden fruit.

AROUND THE HOUSE/vintage samsonite luggage

Just a few shots from around my house. I think that my house is mostly adored by my 3-year-old niece, but I too very much enjoy the decor. I think that your home should inspire you, which is exactly what my house does for me. I usually cut out old advertisements/editorial shoots to frame. And of course I like to purchase lots of critters to decorate...isn't the little pig adorable?

I love the pom pom art. My sister made this piece for me for my birthday. So excited! I had been longing for some pom pom art after seeing a piece that she made for her dining room.

Is anyone else a fan of Runny Bunny? Love these crazy creations by Robin Van Valkenburgh. I have a few, but plan to buy many, many more.

I'll post more from my house later...that is if you are not too freaked out. I know some of it is a little strange, but everything here is very near and dear to my heart.

SWEET/elie tahari reversible jacket

Just a quick shoot before our dinner reservations at Bittersweet. I can't even tell you how impressed I was with this restaurant! It was so delightful! Recent trips to ChoLon and Bittersweet have me a bit smitten with Denver's culinary scene. If you are a foodie, try to book a trip to Denver for a long weekend just to visit some of our restaurants. Can it be true?! Denver, Colorado has a bit of a culinary scene now?! Don't worry, we have more than two great restaurants...we actually have quit a few good ones anymore. I would say that ChoLon, Table 6, Colt & Gray, Bittersweet, Olivea, Z Cuisine and Venue (to name a few) are well worth a visit....that is...if you are in town.

THE DARKSIDE/dolce vita hamilton buckled bootie

These photos were taken awhile ago, but I stumbled upon them and decided that they were well worth sharing. The tree photos remind me of one of my all-time favorite TV shows, Tales from the Darkside. Was anyone else a fan? Twilight Zone, Tales from the Darkside, Alfred Hitchcock Hour, Tales from the Crypt...oh man, they don't make quality TV shows like those anymore!

I love the Tales from the Darkside episode where the woman signs up for a foolproof diet plan. She receives a pair of glasses in the mail and when she puts them on all of her food comes to life. She ends up dying of starvation because she becomes such good friends with her food that she can't bear to eat them. Other favorites are the "The Tear Collector" and the episode with the vacuum that sucks the life out of people.

Sorry, not really a fashion related topic. But if you do get a chance to watch some of the old episodes from the Alfred Hitchcock Hour, please note the ever so glamorous, beautiful and stylish leading ladies.

RANDOM/vanessa bruno leather calf boots

Just some random shots from Sunday. The day started with work and coffee avec Jerrmaner and ended with a birthday party.

My ever so chic Vanessa Bruno boots look just as exquisite as ever. In fact, I think the mere presence of these boots even made my morning coffee taste better.

AS PROMISED/gentle fawn solitude top

Well, I didn't fail you...I promised a while back that I would shoot this top again and here it is...I pulled through. Hopefully this takes our trust to the next level.

The candle print is a constant treat for me, as it reminds me of the Rodarte Fall 2010 show. I feel that anything that reminds me of Rodarte is an automatic golden ticket...can't go wrong with constant thoughts of greatness (as in the Mulleavy sisters).

I also love the cutout back with the exposed zipper. I know the exposed zipper has been around for awhile, but I still find myself surprised by how much it can change a garment. This top is an example of exposed zipper success.

(headband purchased on streets of New York)

I have a serious thing for headwear of any kind. Yep, I quiver at the thought of a pillbox hat with a veil or a giant brim hat adorned with flowers (A little Kentucky Derby anyone?). And while I have many great vintage hats, I find that just a dramatic headband can quench my craving for exciting headpieces. I've wanted to do a post like this for awhile, but we had to figure out a cool way to showcase such fantastic items.

Jay was a little shocked when he saw all the many headbands that I actually own. For some reason he decided that I purchased all of these headbands at one time and instantly labeled me as a "hoarder". Whatever! My collection of headgear was built over years and years...and no, I don't go and buy headbands in bulk. The headpiece has to speak to me before I will even consider taking it home. We all know that a headband can go terribly wrong...this is one mishap that I would very much like to avoid.

I think that Jerrmaner is just sad because he only had 3 hats to shoot. Yep...more is more and bigger is better!!! So eat your heart out, Digital Vacancy!

By the way, this shoot reminds me of a Balenciaga video we saw at Bergdorf's one time in New York. Aww, Digital Vacancy, you drive me crazy, but geeze, we've had some cool times together.

P.S. This is just a taste of the collection. Look forward to many more headpieces in your viewing future.
